Previous positions include Principal Tuba of the UNC Wind Ensemble 2001-2002, Wings of the Angels Symphonic Wind Ensemble 1998-2001, Taipei Sinfonietta & Philharmonic Orchestra in Taipei 1996-1999, Taipei Symphony Orchestra 1994-1996, Taiwan Symphony Orchestra 1992-1994, Epoch Brass Quintet, Formosa Brass Quintet, and the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra (CO) 1991-1992. Gary has also performed with the Colorado & Denver Symphonies, Opera Colorado, National Symphony Orchestra (Taiwan), Greeley Philharmonic, and Cheyenne Symphony.

As a soloist, Mr. Brattin has been featured with the Denver Symphony Orchestra, Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, Tunghai University Wind Ensemble, University of Northern Colorado Symphony Orchestra, UNC Wind Ensemble, and UNC Symphonic Band, as well as the Sirens Concert Band, Taichung Festival Concert Band, and the Chien Kuo H.S. Alumni Concert Band

A native of Denver, Colorado, at the age of 21, won the University of Northern Colorado Concerto Competition, the Rocky Mountain Concerto Competition, and the prestigious Denver Young Artists Orchestra Concerto Competition, performing concertos composed by Ralph Vaughan-Williams and Edward Gregson. In 1986, Gary was a member of the 1986 T.U.B.A. Collegiate All-Star Tuba Ensemble at the 1986 ITEC, in Austin, Texas. In 1989, Mr. Brattin gave the world premeire performance of Latin Rhythms, for Tuba and Percussion, composed by William Schmidt. Gary has also been recorded on several CD's with the Taiwan Symphony, Taipei Sinfonietta, and Wings of the Angels Symphonic Wind Ensemble. Gary's bachelor's degree also has a secondary emphasis in Bass Trombone. Private teachers include Bill Clark, Jim Sparrow, Paul Brooks, Jack Robinson, and Benedict Kirby.
